Voice of Many Waters

“Deep calleth unto deep at the NOISE (voice) of Thy waterspouts: all Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me.” (Psalms 42:7)

“...His VOICE as the sound of many waters.” (Revelation 1:15)

“For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God... For we know that the whole creation GROANETH and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves GROAN within ourselves...” (Romans 8:19, 22-23)

I hear a sound...

Not long ago we took the family on an overnight camping adventure to a local lake in our pop-up camper. After the family had gone to sleep, I remained outside in my lawn chair a few feet from the water, listening to the gentle waves of the lake and a mild Kansas breeze. The Lord began to reveal truth to me concerning the ‘Word that was in the beginning’ (John 1:1) as being the AUDIBLE expression of Who God is, and how we are literally surrounded by the AUDIBLE expression of God, just as we are surrounded by waves of sound. As I sat there enveloped in the presence of God it was as if something inside of me reached out and joined the waves of water and the sound waves of the wind. That night, with the visual demonstration of waves of water before me, I heard a sound...

Right now I am basking in the glory of the Black Hills (which are really mountains) of South Dakota, and it is as if the waterfalls, trees and mountainous rock formations are singing out. As I stood before a waterfall today and my ears filled with ‘the sound of many waters’, I realized that the sound was a result of the interaction between the water, the rocks, and my perception via my ear drums. I’m hearing a sound...

No, it’s not that I’m an unfulfilled and frustrated nature-boy who’s spent too much time in front of a computer screen. Rather, I’m beginning to perceive something that has previously gone unnoticed by me. You see, we humans are only able to visually perceive 3 percent of the entire light wave spectrum. Of the other 97 percent, part of it is electromagnetic light, a small portion of which are wavelengths called radio waves which are perceptible to the human ear. However, were you to graph all the radio wave frequencies classified as sound on a chart three feet wide, the human ear only perceives 3/4 of an inch of the chart. Yes, what we perceive as light and sound are actually the same energy, yet with different frequencies, so they manifest differently. And of the entire spectrum, we only perceive such a small portion.

What we call ‘reality’ is determined by what we perceive through our senses, sight and hearing being two of the primary senses, but ‘our reality’ is such a tiny percentage of the ‘true reality’... remember the other ninety-something percent? I can try to deny the existence of atoms, germs, and micro-organisms because I cannot perceive them, yet that does not alter the fact that they exist. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the DEEP things of God.” (1 Cor. 2:9-10)

So, what am I getting at? What’s all this about water, sound and light? Sounds a bit ‘deep’! Yes, that’s just it... we humans have a very similar percentage of water (the deep) in our bodies as the percentage of water in the earth. Just like the earth we read of in Genesis chapter One, even so the Spirit of God is brooding over the ‘earth’ within US that is void and without form (un-perceived) with darkness upon the face of OUR deep, and SPEAKING Light and separating the darkness (remember, it wasn’t till the fourth day that He made the sun, moon, and stars). “...darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:2-3) You see, it is the VOICE, the sound, that brings forth LIGHT, for it was the VOICE that called forth light in Genesis, and that same VOICE echoes through all creation as “the whole creation GROANETH”. And what exactly is that VOICE crying out for?... the revealing of the sons of God! ‘Sons of God’ are nothing spooky, but simply a people who are maturing into the fullness of Christ, a people through whom Christ can express Himself in the earth. And why exactly is creation crying out for the revealing of the sons of God?... “that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children (sons) of God.” (Romans 8:21) I’m hearing a sound...

Most of us involved in the current apostolic reformation would agree that in the heart of the Father, a primary focus is the gathering of the nations to Himself, the restoration of mankind. However, I personally believe that it goes even further than that to encompass the restoration of the creation, the restoration of the earth. You see, “the creation was subjected to vanity (corruption), not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it...” (Romans 8:20) Ultimately, the Father is the one that verse is speaking of who subjected the earth, but consider this also: Adam was given authority and charge of the earth to subdue it and when he rebelled, HE played a large part in subjecting the earth to corruption. However, the rocks and trees, oceans and streams, creation itself knows something that many Christians do not know- that “creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children (sons) of God!” So many Christians have consigned the earth to going up in smoke, especially since it seems (according to the news media) that things are going from bad to worse. Like Adam, they have handed over their authority to rule the earth to evil forces because of an inaccurate understanding. Let’s face it, if I think that my house is going to be condemned next year and used by the local fire department for a training exercise, it is doubtful that I’ll be putting up new curtains or wallpapering!

In our simplistic literalism, we have read passages like 2 Peter 3:10 expecting something like a nuclear catastrophe; “...the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the ELEMENTS shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” When we read of the elements melting, we must remember that Peter was not writing to a group of scientists familiar with hydrogen, oxygen, magnesium, and other elements on the ‘chart’ we learned about in school. Rather, he was a former fisherman writing to the common people of his day. If we allow the Scripture to interpret itself, we can gain a more accurate understanding.

By simply looking at the context, Galatians 4:1-3, 7, 9, 19 really gives us the meaning of the word ELEMENTS (sometimes translated as RUDIMENTS or FIRST PRINCIPLES), which is stoicheion in Greek. “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the ELEMENTS of the world... Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ... But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly ELEMENTS, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?... My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” (Galatians 4:1-3, 7, 9, 19) Obviously this is a call to move on to maturity from the ELEMENTary reasoning of the carnal mind.

Here again is more clarity to be found in the Scriptures; “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the RUDIMENTS of the world, and not after Christ... Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the RUDIMENTS of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.” (Colossians 2:8, 20-23) “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the FIRST PRINCIPLES of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.” (Hebrews 5:12) “Therefore, let us go on and get past the ELEMENTary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ, advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belongs to spiritual maturity.” (Hebrews 6:1)

You see, my friend, the Father has no such plan to destroy His creation. Consider what Peter said concerning the flood of Noah, “Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, PERISHED.” (2 Peter 3:6) The meaning of the word translated as perished, apollumi in Greek, means to destroy fully. Obviously, the terra-firma earth was NOT destroyed in the flood because Noah’s ark didn’t end up on another planet or just floating around in the solar system. The earth remained! What was destroyed was the wickedness of man, the result of the ELEMENTary reasoning of the carnal mind. The flood acted as a CLEANSING agent for the earth... and so it is with fire. “Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.” (1 Cor. 3:13)

As we allow the Scripture to interpret itself, here again is even more clarity to be found; “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man... Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is REVEALED (is not the Son of Man being revealed in a mature Son, of whom Jesus is the Head with all preeminence, and we are the Body?)... I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.” (Luke 17:26, 30, 34-36 my question in parentheses) There are really only two men in the earth (the bed, the field, our life) today- Adam and Christ. Who do you think the Father takes away, and who remains to rule and reign? It is obvious that as Adam, the ELEMENTary reasoning of the carnal mind is removed, the Son of man, the sons of God are REVEALED! Isn’t that what the whole creation GROANS for, that it be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children (sons) of God? I hear a sound...

Perhaps there is another aspect of this restoration of the earth that we’ve overlooked. Consider what the seraphim declare in Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole EARTH IS full of His GLORY.” Hmmm... are these seraphim looking at a different earth than we are? I think not! Perhaps they are just perceiving something we don’t. Remember the other ninety-something percent of the entire LIGHT spectrum, and we only perceive such a small portion. “For now we SEE through a glass, darkly; but then face to face...” (1 Cor. 13:12) Possibly this verse is more literal than we think. If I only had 5 percent of my vision, the world would seem like a very dark place, as my ‘reality’ is largely determined by what I perceive through my senses. Were my sight restored to 100 percent, my ‘reality’ would change drastically. Perhaps then I would be saying, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth IS full of His GLORY.”

Speaking of perception, Psalms 42:7 says it so beautifully; “Deep calleth unto deep at the NOISE (voice) of Thy waterspouts: all Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me.” The word translated as noise is qowl in Hebrew, meaning to call aloud, a voice or sound. Depending on our perception, our hearing, this can either be perceived as noise or the distinction of a voice. Then it goes on to say, “Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me”; the phrase ‘gone over’ is abar in Hebrew, meaning to cross over, used very widely of any transition, specifically to cover in intercourse (sorry to get a bit graphic there, that’s the definition though). This conveys the idea of intimate relations. This verse seems to be saying that His waves and His billows (His deep) spiritually impregnates, overshadows us (our deep). Although I have never experienced pregnancy (which is a good thing, since I am a male!), I have observed in my wife and others a dramatic change in perception- pregnant women are focused on bringing forth new life. All the same information and input is now perceived differently. Perhaps those seraphim in Isaiah 6:3 are ‘pregnant’ with the purpose of God... I hear a sound...

“And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves GROAN within ourselves...” (Romans 8:23) I hear a sound rising up within me, it is not necessarily just an individual sound, but rather it is a corporate sound, the voice of MANY waters. At times it is the rumbling groan of thunder, at times it is the distinction of musical notes... “And they sung a new song...” (Rev. 5:9) Just as the ‘New Song’ is the catalyst for loosing the seals (spoken of in the Revelation) in order that the ‘mystery’ (Christ in US - Corporately) be revealed, even so the GROAN is bringing forth LIGHT, for it was the VOICE that called forth light in Genesis. Could the revealing of the sons of God, spoken of in Romans chapter 8, really be the prophetic fulfillment of Gen. 1:3-4, as God said, “Let there be light, and there was light... and God separated the light from the darkness.”? Yes, God is still in the business of separating Light from darkness. Indeed, as Light is separated from darkness, the ELEMENTS of the Adamic nature melt with the fervent heat of the baptism of Fire.

As I mentioned earlier, standing before a waterfall, my ears filled with ‘the sound of many waters’, I realized that the sound was a result of the interaction between the water, the rocks, and my perception via my ear drums. At first it seemed like indecipherable thunder, but as I listened closer I began to hear the distinction of many different frequencies, which were the result of the water interacting with the rocks. Much like a symphony, all the frequencies came together to form ONE sound, yet it was the sound of many waters. In the same manner, a casual ear upon the Church today will render a message of indecipherable thunder, for there are so many voices saying so many things. However, if we will listen closely, we will discern the distinction of many different giftings and administrations. These are the result of our particular deposit of Christ, our spiritual perspective, our ‘deep’, interacting with the Rock who is Christ in His many-membered Body. “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” (1 Cor. 12:4-6) All too often our perception is thus: because other members of the Body are emphasizing something different than we are, well ‘Obviously they are NOT on the cutting edge.’ My friend, a sword that only has a ‘cutting edge’ and no handle to hold firmly to is going to tear you up and do great damage. “And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.” (1 Cor. 12:21) Much like a symphony, the Voice of the Father is to be found as all the frequencies, giftings and administrations come together to form ONE sound; through the distinction of many and ONENESS of purpose, it is the sound of many waters.

To illustrate this, let us look to science for a moment in the ‘principle of superposition’. The first, and most profound, difference between wave motion and the motion of objects of physical mass is that waves do not display any REPULSION of each other analogous to the normal forces between objects that come in contact. So it is in the realm of the spiritual man (or woman), there is no COMPETITION, no ‘clashes’ like we find in the SOULish (mind, will, emotions) realm of existence. In the natural, two wave patterns can therefore overlap in the same region of space. Where the two waves coincide, they add together, forming a synergistic wave. Let us think of waves of water for a moment- suppose that at a certain location in at a certain moment in time, each wave would have had a crest 10 centimeters above the normal water level. The waves combine at this point to make a 20 centimeter crest. In the spiritual sense, I believe that there is more than mere ‘addition’ that happens, rather, there is a synergistic wave released as two combine. In other words, when operating in the Spirit of Christ, ten plus ten doesn’t equal twenty... ten plus ten equals fifty! It is precisely this exponential effect that the enemy would try to prevent. We MUST raise our understanding and realize the when we operate with the SOULish Adamic mindset, the very opportunities the Father provides to release a synergistic wave of corporate anointing, become ego clashes that tear the Body down and frustrate the redemptive purposes of God in creation. Away with the mindset of the ‘one man (or woman) show’! Let the exponential synergy of the corporate anointing be released in the earth!

As I looked at the waterfall and the waves of the water flowing together, I noticed there were some areas where the water was diverted and seemed to go off by itself to a lower point, away from the rest of the stream. Invariably, these were little stagnant pools... I think perhaps you are getting the picture. If you are one who is off doing your own thing, and nobody else is saying anything even remotely similar, perhaps you need to examine your ‘pool’. Is there Life your ‘pool’? Does anyone else desire a drink from your ‘pool’? If not, then raise your understanding, come up to the higher ground of corporate anointing, that you may flow back into the sound of many waters.

By now you might be thinking that I’ve forgotten my subject matter of SOUND... no, I haven’t. It’s just that waves of water are such an excellent visual demonstration to help us understand. The SOUND that I’m hearing is not the sound of the isolated stagnant pool of the ELEMENTary reasoning of the carnal mind. Rather it is His VOICE as the sound of many waters, calling for the revealing of the sons of God! I hear a sound...

“For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God... For we know that the whole creation GROANETH and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves GROAN within ourselves...” (Romans 8:19, 22-23)

Do you hear a sound?... If so, join your voice with that sound, allow the groan within you to come forth, that the purposes of God for the earth be made manifest. Deep really IS calling to deep, if you have ears to hear. Allow His waves and His billows to overshadow you, and being ‘pregnant’ with the purpose of God, proclaim that the whole earth IS full of His GLORY!
